Disclaimer : This post is written for the sole purpose of making Mr. Sajjan"wheatish complexion on warm sunny Indian days" Rao jealous. It was a sultry Saturday afternoon , just like any other day. Location " Vaibhav" the AC theatre. Me and a friend of mine bargained and got 2 tickets for the film Rang de Basanti for Rs 200 ,the original being a mere Rs 60.I thought it was for the balcony turned out it was for second class seats.Oh well!,Bloggers can't be choosers. "Khoon jo ab na khaula woh khoon nahi paani hai Jo desh Ke kaam na aaye bekaar woh jawani hai.. " That's how the film starts and I was stunned for 35 seconds,no not for the amazing way Aamir delivers it or the inner meaning of the words but the whistling and screaming .... aaah.... it’s great to be in an Indian theatre. We were seated in the middle of the theatre and were surrounded by a rowdy "teenage" crowd, who apparently loved the onscreen swearing and cursing .By God! they even clapped a few times. Of course as usual we had a couple of rows of college girls who could quite easily have replaced Neve Campbell in Scream. What can I say about the film ,it’s colorful, and it’s musical but alas could not hear the dialogues because of the crowd... grr they were screaming. So planning to go again :) The crowd just loved Aamir whose name is DJ in the film, after 2 hours I found out that it was Diljeet Singh. If you want the story go read the reviews posted by other blogs.go go. Saala ..time paas keliye aatha hai .. ( Forgive me.I'm still in that"tapori" mood). Do listen to the songs of Rang de..I must say it is quite pleasant. Especially the song "Paatashaala",you have got to see it to believe it. Rehman delivers yet again. Exceptional scenes NOT from the film: The trailer of "Kriss" aka Koi Mil Gaya-2 ,they show Hrithik (actually a shot of his biceps or is it Triceps) running and then a shot of Keanu Reeves,in black, flying ,it took me 12 seconds to recognize my mistake.It was not Neo but our very own Hrithik Roshan .Come on I couldn't think straight, that college girl was screaming her lungs out...uff Weird teenagers. My verdict: Go and watch it with your gang of friends and look out for that screaming girl in the 4th row. Chronicles of Narnia : I agree with Sp.. it’s for kids. King Kong : It was 9pm and after watching an hour of KK, I fell asleep to be suddenly awakened by a scream.. I thought I was back in the theatre ...thankfully I was home.The first half of the film was boring but it took a dramatic turn when King Kong arrives on the scene, yep more screaming.The film is directed by Peter Jackson (LOR) and the special effects which include KK fighting 3 dino's and saving the heroine is awesome. If you think it’s a remake of the old King Kong,you are in for a huge surprise. This new improved KK is like our very own kk.

The "one" Pothole .

For once I tried reading the Times of India ‘s ,spiritual section titled the Speaking Tree.It had this passage from the Chandogya Upanishad : “Where one sees nothing but the One, hears nothing but the One, knows nothing but the One–there is the Infinite. Is it the dude in black armor, Darth “ I have breathing problems” Vader from the far away Tatooine galaxy? Is it our very own young befuddled magician Harry “Is Dumbledore alive ?” Potter. Can it be the merry little alcoholic hobbit Frodo, whose favorite line is “Sam, where are you? ”. Who who who let the dogs out. . Oops I mean who do you think it is ? Anand believes it’s this “ out of the world “ dude. I bet that guy’s checking mails on his laptop. ++++++++++++++++++++ The HC appointed committee investigating the roads in Bangalore has pointed out that , the pail of water that you empty out on your front yard every morning might just be ruining city's roads . Frontages washed with water, a popular practice since time immemorial to ostensibly draw those intricate rangoli patterns, is apparently causing the asphalt layer to wear out. What does this mean to the lazy teenage girls ? It means no more getting up at 6 am to wash the front yard. Duh!! Yep you heard it right .. I wonder what my granny (God rest her soul and mango pickles in peace ) would have said to this accusation. All I have to say is .. “Why the hell are they checking roads in residential areas ?” aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh !! Mooosa Moooosa 1 2 3 4 5 …. .. I am calm I am calm !!

What does Amitabh Bachchan do when he's bored ? Oh you mean when he’s not paying taxes, he acts in a film called “Family ". What can you look forward in this film? Apart from every dialogue having the word “Family”, well a close-up of Amitabh Bachchan's white beard. What do you think of that new hero's acting talents? Firstly I gave up thinking a long time ago and hero?? Oh you mean that dude with frog eyes. the last man standing, that guy ..acting.. well honestly I don't know.. I was busy feeding the mouse some popcorn. ( I swear ask Anand ). What about the action and direction? The mouse it was so cute. I think it was begging for more popcorn. Why did you watch this film? Well Anand wanted to watch Zinda ..the other film starring Lara .. but we were a bit late to catch that movie, so we thought let’s experiment and Anand said " Family" has AB and Akshay .. ..might be fun. Never in our short lives where we so wrong. Do you think you can compare this film with any other “Flop busters”? Are you trying to trick me into comparing "Family" with" Tango Charlie"? Any bright moments while watching this movie? When I received a call... Come-on at least one “magic moment”? Apart from when we walked out of the theatre ? well aah! there was this one scene where the Frog eyed Hero confronts AB ..AB's wife is killed and he's grr.. Hero: Dekha.. blah blah .. tunhe mere " devtha samaan" bekasoor bhai ko marah .. blah blah.... blah ..silence..... AB: Aur kaun hai tumhare " Family " main ? Oh yes Sajjan is going to get this DVD compliments from Vc

Candle in the night ...

Lighting a candle is somewhat like the beginning of life. If that is true, then perhaps extinguishing a candle is like the ending of life. But death may not be the end of us. We live on in the memories of friends and loved ones. The influence we possessed in life works on, moving persons or causes forward. Let us not forget that most candles have more than one life, and so, perhaps, may we. Moral: Buy lots of candles and psst present some to me.. I like the perfumed ones .. Tears of the Sun

We went DVD hunting ( as usual ) and I picked up “ Tears of the Sun “. Why ? Well because it had a line which said “ More action than Die Hard “. It’s a common enough story and I won’t go into the details . I liked this conversation, it’s between the commando Bruce and Father Gianni . When Bruce is evacuating the refugees and Monica Belucci(hmm hmm), the Father who chooses to stay back says : Go with God! Bruce: God already left Africa. And then there is the line : For our sins , to which they scream Hooyah Hooyah ..I don’t know what the hell that meant .. but it’s catchy ….Hooyah Hooyah …Maybe it means lets die for our sins .. hmm and the tag line was so weird : The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. - Edmund Burke Viewable but not a collectible. I persuaded Anand to dump Hotshots and pick up the 1985 , adventure flick, written by Steven Spielberg “The Goonies “.

How do you dream/plan on starting a brand new year? Party? Freak out? Go to a pooja or meet Pooja? Visit friends and relatives? Go out in search of the book titled “ Eldest”? Curl up in bed and get that most needed extra hour or 2 of blissful sleep? I guess most of the time people just want that strong cup of coffee and the morning TOI.I never could figure out what the hype about the beginning of a new year was all about? Oh come-on its just another day ...isn't it? There are some people who believe that whatever happens on Jan 1st is a sign of coming days. Hah fools! My new year's eve was out of this world, couldn't have started off better. I got a string of messages from weird people( I have no idea who Rithu and Rithesh Bansal are) and then a long distance call from my sis and Bil wishing me a “Happy New Year" and lots of dishum dishum. Confused? Ok let’s start from the beginning. You guys know Sajjan right... well he was on his way to California and I asked him if he could take a few kilos of stuff for my sis. Poor guy he thought it was just a couple of DVD's and stuff, little did he realize that he was dealing with Indian mom's who try to show of their culinary skills.The total baggage amounted to approximately 6 kilos, which included a huge 500 gm Unripe MANGO. My sis and bil then drove 400 miles to pick up the stuff and when Saj did not contact them, they decided to call me and ask me about his wereabouts.I think I forgot to tell them that Saj doesn't wear a watch and doesn't in believe in "time".Shucks!! 8 am: They politely wished me a happy new year and then started bashing me. Your friend has not called us. does he have our number..does he know that we are coming over .. oooh aaah ouch. 9 am : dishum dishum...... do you know that we had to travel for 5 hours ? 11 am: This time I threw the cell on the bed and danced to Anu Malik's loos song " Do me a favor lets play holi.. rang-o main hai pyar ki boli...".I don’t think they noticed . 1pm :They called to say that Saj had atlast contacted them. I sighed with relief .. and politely pointed out that it was new year's eve and all this time they were taking out their anger and frustrations out at me. They apologized. I should have taken that opportunity to remind them about my DVD recorder and 1GB memory stick..damn. 2 pm: This time it was my Bil and even before he could say hello I warned him that I was trying to take a much earned siesta. I was surprised when my bil gave the phone to Sajjan who said “ Hey Vc contact has been made.. the goods have been delivered”.It was 1am their time.. what in heaven’s name where they doing at 1 am ? I think I ruined Sajjan’s New year plans( uahahhahahahaa ).Thanks Saj. 3.30 pm:It seems my sis called again but this time on the landline and talked to mom and asked her to thank me on her behalf.She didn't have the guts to call me.. HAH. I would have given her a piece of my mind. On second thoughts I have only 1 piece and I would rather not part with it.( sentimental value) So there it is a great start to a new year. For our sins.. Hoooyah .

In essence, Eragon has all the traditional ingredients that make a fantasy novel enjoyable. That’s what the publisher says. Monday: 1pm, a hot and hungry afternoon. Place : Kottayam ( Somewhere in the Southern part of Kerala ) I and my friend Bala were waiting at the Kottayam bus-stand for the 2pm Bangalore bound bus and were mentally preparing for the18 hour journey back home.Bala was reading the Kerala edition of “ The Hindu”, I half close my eyes and try to count the tulsi beads . Suddenly there is a flurry of activity as the seat in front is occupied by a couple of teenagers( a typical Malayali girl and a dude).They stare at me and I am unaware of the attention that is being bestowed on me.( Nope this time it was not the nose but the sandal paste on my forehead ) .Bala nudges me and tries to wake me from my stupor and whispers that I am being watched. I ignore the stares and try to concentrate but my mind wavers and I do the one thing I swore never to do. I scratch my nose. I then decide to visit the the Book store which is round the corner. I feel 6 pairs of eyes following me. I look at the Agatha Christie book thoughtfully and suddenly my attention is drawn towards the book titled “ Eragon” and on an impulse I buy it, something to read on the return journey.. Thus starts the epic journey to a world filled with magic, Urgals,Orcs ,Elves and of course a blue Dragon. The first 4 chapters are so similar to Robert Jordan’s “ Eye of the World” that I almost decided to abandon the book .. But Vc also stands for very curious and so I continued to read and was gripped by the plot. Did you know that the author started writing this book when he was a just 15 yrs old. I can’t wait to read the second part titled “ Eldest “ and so I am bunking office and will grab that book today . A word of caution to Mr Prashanth Sriram , Christopher Paolini borrows a bit obviously from the authors that inspire him (Tolkien, McCaffery, LeGuin, Jordan, Lewis, Pullman, Donaldson). The best part is that this is going to be movie in 2006,something to look forward to.The girls are sure to go gaga googoo when they see the hero.
