One aspect of being single

which i really hate is washing the dishes.!!!!aaaaaaaaaaaah My parents are on a pilgrimage ,they are actually visiting relatives in Mangalore , but i prefer to call it a " thirth yatra ", anyway they'll be stopping at half a dozen temples on the way . My mom made a huge list of things i was supposed to do >> and a here's a sample.

Lock the doors properly

Close all windows.

Close all water taps .

Check the gas connection.

Switch the lights off.

Switch the TV off.

Pay the bills. etc.etc.. the list goes on ....

The last time I visited Mangalore was 7 years ago .Wow that was a long time ago .I miss the beaches, the old temples, relatives, food, pickles and the local language.

Read this somewhere"My goal is to reach as many people as possible, not to impress a select few with my perfect grammar (which I don’t have anyway).Communication is about being effective, not always about being proper. "

"Communication is about being effective, not always about
being proper." I doubt this works. Linguistics is replete with examples on how improper grammar and language can cause misinterpretations and produce hilarious results. Anyway, what do u do apart from those things on the list I mean are u a student or a professional?

Hah Kirthi ...

"Communication is about being effective, not always about
being proper." I'll try proving that this works .

EX : The above article .
I can show you 5 places where , the author(that's me)has used improper grammar and language , but still has been able to drive home the point.
What else do you need ???

Vc gives a sly smile .

PS: Finished my Engg long back.5 yrs ago... You can call me a professional :)

I second Kirthi..

if we loosen importance of the grammar, then the purpose of grammar itself is not served.

When it comes to the English language, perfection is in the eye of
the beholder, and it also depends on what century you’re living in.
I don’t mind ending a sentence
with a preposition now and then (I paraphrase Sir Winston
Churchill when I say that not ending a sentence with a preposition “is a rule up with which I will not put”). Even God ends sentences with prepositions: “Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded
you not to eat from?” Genesis 3:10–12.
"
See even Bob agrees with me ..

The question here is, do we always have to be grammatically correct to be understood ?

Veee..yaro kirrriki kirthi?? enu full englis alli yeneno bardbittiddale..yenu visya?? loooo anything happening??

Kirthi said...

Ironical that a discussion on English language and grammar should end with two kannada posts in roman script!!

Vc said...

Oh but Kirthi.. this is just the beginning ...

Kirthi said...

So what did those kannada posts mean anyway? It mentioned my name somewhere...can't figure why!!

Vc said...

Oh nothing much.. someone wanted to know who Kirthi was... and why she wants everything to be so perfect...

Kirthi said...

I don't know what ur reply was to mr. anon's query...but my reply to the first question is ask my parents if u want the truth. And on the premise that I am trying to be perfect...then u got that wrong dude/gal (such a problem with anonymous posts).

Vc said...

I wonder Who Mister/Miss Anon was .... hmmm ..Vc smirks

Kirthi said...

The smirk tells me u know who anon is ( I wasn't born yesterday not to figure that out)!! But we have digressed way off the issue on hand all thanx to anony.

Vc said...

Jesu H Christ , Kirthi how in heaven's name could you come up with a word such as digressed ?

Everyone else would have used the word "strayed" .

Well I guess you are different ... Unique , just like all of us .

Kirthi said...

Ok so I have transgressed by using the word digressed...(u'll probably throw the Webster's on my face if u ever meet me).

Vc said...

Oh well i also noticed that you use the letter "u" a lot ..I wonder why ... Oh did i mention that i was hoping to become a psychologist one day ....

Is this conversation, if I may call it, should i call it debate or a fight, about being Home-Alone or being correct in your sentences, or is there something i am missing, hope you don’t mind my intrusion…

Vc said...

Ok this Anonymous dude was Sripada from Gurgaon :).

Hey Sri, how's the weather out there ?

Anonymous said...

I am with VC.. If your message is driven home, it does not matter if your sentence was not correct grammatically....other way of looking at the same is that even if you have a well massaged pioneered sentence which fails to convey the message it worth nothing....

Sripada

Yahoooo 3 cheers for Sripada..

How come libs like "words", and are too wordy ?/ hmm hmm
Is it just that they love to hear themselves??
Don't u think sometimes we people tend to lose the clarity of our thought..caught up in the web of our own words.

Dee.

Hiya People,

I'm trying to be neutral here. IMO it totally depends on the situation and the graveness of the matter, one is communicating.

There is probably a truth in what Veecee says - communication being effective and not really proper. But there are times when a poor communication can result in enough damage, sufficient to repent for life :). Veecee, try driving your point to your manager by using improper grammar ;-). Eh?

Cheers,
Ansu

So the score now is :
Vc-1
Kirik Kirthi-2
Neutral-1

But "The obscure we see eventually. The completely obvious, it seems, takes longer." Sir ~Edward R. Murrow .

and i am patient, so I'll wait :) .

Thank you Miss Kirthi and Anand for keeping this post alive and kicking.

I'm still waiting for my sis and BIL to chalk out their thoughts on this matter.

This is fun :).......
